The Vocational Services Department is an administrative collection
of services designed to help visually impaired people find work, learn how to
succeed in jobs they have found or prepare to find work. In the case of individuals with
severe multiple disabilities or seniors with multiple disabilities who have already
retired from work, these programs provide structured daily activities in place of work.
Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh's Employment Support Program offers an array of services for
persons with vision impairments and other disabilities to discover their career
potentials.
Community
Transition Program is a program offered within Blind &
Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh's Oakland facility. It
provides specialized services to persons that have severe mental
challenges and visual impairments. This program was established in 1993 to
initially serve persons that were being transitioned from state centers
for individuals with mental retardation to the community. The program is
funded and supported by the Allegheny County MH/MR/D&A/H&H
Program.
Blind&
Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh has incorporated the
Employment Transition Services (ETS)
as an integral part of available programs. For the individual who is
visually impaired, and/or has other disabilities, the vehicle to the
highest level of personal independence is active vocational training and
community based instruction. Each person is provided an environment to
gain independence and confidence and be taught responsibilities required
for full productivity in employment.
The Senior Transition Program provides specialized services to persons over the age of
50 with a variety of abilities, disabilities, and aging characteristics.
