Bequests

Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh offers a wide range of opportunities for those wishing to
make a planned gift. Supporters are reminded to keep us in mind when preparing wills.
Proper wording to make a bequest is as follows:
"I give, devise and bequeath to Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh, a Pennsylvania
not-for-profit corporation with offices located at 1800 West Street,
Homestead, Pennsylvania 15120, County of Allegheny the sum of $____ to be administered by the said
Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh
for persons with disabilities."
To make a bequest as a memorial, use the following
wording:
"I make this bequest as a memorial to be
known as the (insert name)." |

Insurance
|
Very often policies have outlived their usefulness as a means of security, If you no
longer need the policy, you can give it to us or name us as a beneficiary. You may receive
income tax benefits as well. |

Gifts of Real Estate
|
You can make a gift of personal property, including real estate such as a
residence, vacation home or condominium. You may continue to use the residence as before
and you may also realize a sizable income tax reduction as well. |

Charitable Remainder Trusts
|
Trusts can provide an opportunity to receive income for life, avoid capital
gains tax, reduce income and estate taxes, secure benefits for children and grandchildren
- and made a significant gift to a charity. There are several types of trusts including a
"unitrust" which pays a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust
and the "annuity" which pays a fixed dollar amount each year. In both, the
charity receives the remainder interest upon your death and/or you and your spouse. |

Charitable Lead Trust
|
Charitable Lead Trusts allows a charity to receive income from the donor's
assets for a specific time after which the asset is transferred back to the donor or the
donor's heirs. A charitable lead trust can reduce gift and estate taxes and provide income
benefit to the donor. |

Gift from Your IRA
|
If you are aged 70 and 1/2 or older,
you can participate in the Pension Protection Act of 2006. This
federal ruling is only available during 2006 and 2007. This is a
great opportunity to donate up to $100,000 a year if you must take a
mandatory withdrawl from your IRA, but you do not need the additional
income. The gift must come directly from your IRA. |
