Bequests

Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh offers a wide range of opportunities for those wishing to make a planned gift. Supporters are reminded to keep us in mind when preparing wills. Proper wording to make a bequest is as follows:

"I give, devise and bequeath to Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh, a Pennsylvania not-for-profit corporation with offices located at 1800 West Street, Homestead, Pennsylvania  15120, County of Allegheny the sum of $____ to be administered by the said Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh for persons with disabilities."

To make a bequest as a memorial, use the following wording:

"I make this bequest as a memorial to be known as the (insert name)."

Insurance

Very often policies have outlived their usefulness as a means of security, If you no longer need the policy, you can give it to us or name us as a beneficiary. You may receive income tax benefits as well.

Gifts of Real Estate

You can make a gift of personal property, including real estate such as a residence, vacation home or condominium. You may continue to use the residence as before and you may also realize a sizable income tax reduction as well.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Trusts can provide an opportunity to receive income for life, avoid capital gains tax, reduce income and estate taxes, secure benefits for children and grandchildren - and made a significant gift to a charity. There are several types of trusts including a "unitrust" which pays a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust and the "annuity" which pays a fixed dollar amount each year. In both, the charity receives the remainder interest upon your death and/or you and your spouse.

Charitable Lead Trust

Charitable Lead Trusts allows a charity to receive income from the donor's assets for a specific time after which the asset is transferred back to the donor or the donor's heirs. A charitable lead trust can reduce gift and estate taxes and provide income benefit to the donor.

Gift from Your IRA

If you are aged 70 and 1/2 or older, you can participate in the Pension Protection Act of 2006.  This federal ruling is only available during 2006 and 2007.  This is a great opportunity to donate up to $100,000 a year if you must take a mandatory withdrawl from your IRA, but you do not need the additional income.  The gift must come directly from your IRA.
