Low Vision Rehabilitation Services
Low vision services at Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh (BVRS) are for individuals whose eyesight cannot be returned to normal with glasses, contact lenses, surgery or medication.
The low vision team includes a specially trained optometrist who will give you a comprehensive examination and prescribe optical aids. You then will work with an occupational therapist who will teach you how to use your new optical tools.
Referrals to BVRS’ Low Vision Rehabilitation Services can be made by anyone requesting a low-vision examination for themselves or another individual. We can assist you with financial needs and — if necessary — with transportation to and from appointments. Medicare and most insurances accepted.
Low vision services are available at our Homestead office near The Waterfront shopping area or at our South Hills location near Baldwin High School.
To make a referral, call 412-368-4400 and ask to speak to the Information & Referral Specialist or email info@pghvis.org. Please have the following information available when making the referral: patient name, address and phone number and medical insurance. When the low vision examination is complete, a report will be prepared explaining the results of the evaluation and any recommended low vision devices.
